I’ve been a relaxed, happy, good to hang out with mummy today. My boys have loved it. I wasn’t on my usual health and safety patrol, or being bad cop to Daddy’s good cop. It was lovely. Although it’s not something I could sustain every day – I’m shattered!
Check out everything that we did – and from noon it was all spontaneous!
8.30am Swimming lessons
9.45am Rugby
12 noon Home, change and get cleaned up
1pm Swimming at the hotel with friends who we saw at Rugby and said “Lets go swimming”
2pm Kisses and cuddles and “I love you’s” as we got out of the pool, from the boys to Debi Hogston – the best swimming teacher in the world.
2.30pm Ice cream
2.40pm Petting some cows – the mum of the other children loves them. Even though I was quite scared of them, I let the boys go and pat the cow that was sat down – visualising how the cow’s back leg could kick out at any moment and knock their teeth out… I was so panicked, but sat very still and quiet and was good!
2.50pm Buying Pimms x 2, soft drinks x 4 and crisps x 6
3pm In a chauffered punt, kids all being pirates and screaming Echo Echooooo under the bridges – other Mum and I enjoying brief moments of respite.
4.15pm In pub, having early tea, coercing shattered children to eat in between group trips to the toilet
5.30pm In Waitrose, thanking God for additional opening hours in the Olympics and Paralympics, because we needed food for packed lunches tomorrow
7pm Boys in bed.
8pm Work call with client
9pm E asleep on sofa next to me, because he couldn’t sleep alone upstairs….
I feel like I’ve been on a funfair ride today, it was so good, so much fun and something I don’t do very often – but sometimes, it’s nice to just do things differently. And if that’s the last day of summer we’ll be having in 2012, I made sure it was a good one and did it with new friends who I hope we’ll know for many more years to come!
