Wowsers – what does this word mean to you? is this a real word, does it have a meaning? Hi, I’m Michaela, a new client of Weston Communications and I am hijacking Liz’s WordPress to learn how to Blog!! Help… This week, I provoked a storm of comments in the staff room, discussing what words do you use with your small children, is Wowzers a word, what does it mean? when would you use the word Wowsers? would you use this with your child? I own Bumpkins Nursery and there are words we don’t use in Nursery, for instance we never say a child is Naughty. We use positive words to praise and always focus on the positive, it’s the lesson we all know as parents, you always put a smile on your face when talking to a child. But and this is a big but do you want a professional carer to use slang and I think Wowzers is slang or am I just being too old-fashioned and need to accept how much language and words are changing.
I dont mind what you use at home with your child, its your choice you are the parent but in a professional child care situation I think there are standards to be adhered to. We have lots of them and it changes all the time, I don’t want staff having a tattoo that I can see, if its on their wrist they wear a sweatband, if its upper arm long sleeve and I don’t want to see bra straps, I don’t want to see dark underwear under light coloured tops, it’s standards and if you use slang then its the start of standards slipping. So is Wowzers a word, and how do you spell it anyway? what on earth does it mean anyway?
