I thought as the female in this house, it was up to me to be into the fashion stuff. But apparently not. Bigger Dude is now interested in them as well. For his birthday, I got him this hoody from Skate Hut – kind of like the ones below, but in blue. Even with the help of someone over the phone I got the sizing wrong. It arrived and is not just “big enough to grow into” but too big by far. I didn’t mean to. But he’s loving it so much that he’s insisting on wearing it. Lovely Bloke is not amused – he looks like he’s got monkey arms.
He’s 8 and a good height but so slight in the arms and body (jealous, moi??) that the clothes don’t fit quite like I want them to. The swimming also makes him very shapely – that triangle thing is starting – broad shoulder and chest going down to a very small waist. So when I was offered some clothes to review from House of Fraser, I instantly thought of getting more kit for Bigger Dude. Mind you, I was worried, as I was offered 30.00 and didn’t think I’d get much.
Anyway, I got looking online and went straight for the sale ranges. In there, I spotted some Benetton and went for it, as I’ve heard that they are good for fits. And voila. They are! I’d like to be able to show you the tops that I went for – but because they were in the sale, two of them are no longer available! And there’s a hoody from Polarn O Pryet that I had in the sale as well. It all came to 31.38 in total. Really, it did. For four tops and one hoody.
So, here’s my take on the tops. They are good. Really good. Bigger dude loves these – I’m about to order them both again, but in the next sizes up and will put them aside. The hoody I’m really frustrated with. It’s thin – really thin and not at all what I know and love of Polarn O Pryet. We have their ski coats – at £80 ish, they are very expensive indeed, but we get two goes at them with two boys and get to hand them on, so we don’t mind. I might go in to the shop in Cambridge and see if this is their style now – not to use them as jumpers but more for layering? I don’t know. But felt it important to document that bit.
And finally, shoes. My Lord. I actually documented it as a life event on Fakebook. We have crossed into a world from which it is unlikely we will return soon. The Vans shop – not only do the shoes have laces, but they are also dude shoes. Thankfully they were again, a sale buy. But what happens when he wants non sale shoes, just for hanging about with? I think I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it??? Denial is a wonderful place to live….
So that’s that. Me, a Mum who buys clothes that are either Hugely Too Big that Bigger Dude insists on wearing, or tops that are uber sale and go down a treat and finally, a Mum who is quite scared of what the future holds with regards to clothes shopping – and not because of the price. It’s because it’s another sign of them growing up and I don’t know how to articulate how I feel about it.
Me x
Please note: The hooded top from Skate Hut and the Vans were our own purchases. The tops and hoody from House of Fraser were given to us for review. There was a bit of a kerfuffle with the latter over their request for the inclusion of specific links but as this is a review and not a sponsored post, I’ve linked to the clearance range, which I really do recommend you visit, as there’s some great stuff in it.
