I’ve not lasted very long. I’m sorry. I’m already doing it. Looking at holidays and working out what there is out there, for once we have saved enough money for our new car. Looking at places in France, or possibly further afield, for us to try. I was asked this week by Yelloh to write about our experiences of travelling in Europe and frankly, I’ve been online ever since planning somewhere to go! Not quite what they asked so sorry for the delay in publishing this Yelloh….
Our experiences of travelling in Europe have been, on the whole, really positive. We’ve been spoilt by our experiences with Mark Warner in Greece – fully catered, five star apartments with service like you get in New York, water sports, sunbeds and ice cream a plenty. We’ve also had a great time, but in a very different way, at a campsite in France. We’ve done a weekend in Paris hunting for The Best French Onion Soup – and found it! And perhaps our most surreal experience, was the private ‘house’ in the very South of France, where we joined friends for a week and pretended it was totally normal to have our own mansion with private pool, olive groves and staff on hand.
The ferry looked big. Now that the man on a bicycle has turned up to get on it, it looks even bigger! #WestonsOnTour A photo posted by Liz Weston (@westoncomms) on
I would return in a heartbeat to the Mark Warner places, because it really is a place where I’d just switch off and feel that because it’s relatively enclosed, the boys could go and do their own thing. I also love the idea that the management will be the same and that we’d be literally welcomed with open arms. That’s a very special experience to have indeed.
I wouldn’t go back to the place where we did the mobile home in France. Why? Because it was central France and as such it meant that we we were still subject to the variable weather and had several days of rain. Husband complained that we may as well be at home and was grumpy when it was wet. He had a point.
There’s a lot of variation in the interpretation of what service means in France.
I realise now that I’m using instagram to document our family holidays !!!
These are my favourite memories, the boys experiencing life and not realising how lucky they are to be doing and having what they have….
OK, I think we need to stop this now. I’m going to cry unless I get some sunshine and luxury this summer.
No really, I think I need to go offline for a while…

I’ve spent over an hour looking at our photos of holidays in Europe and I have to say, they have all been better than our holiday to Furteventura. Which is actually the only place we’ve been to outside of Europe – and we didn’t like it!! OK, got to go, I’ve got holiday planning to do!
