Here’s a completely different take on whether we Can Have It All, from Claire Young, who was in the Apprentice with Lord Alan Sugar on series 4. She’s in the middle of the life changing thing that we all know as becoming a Mummy and has some interesting thoughts… http://twitter.com/
“I think it’s important that success is determined by your own person, not others perception of it. By setting your personal benchmark, unique values and being happy with your contribution. We don’t live in a perfect world and I don’t aspire to have the ‘perfect’ life. I’m not superwoman and think there has to be some level of compromise. I have high standards, can be tough on myself, however am a realist. In theory you can have it all, but at what cost? Your mental sanity?! I’m open about the challenges I face as an entrepreneur and a new mummy. I think if more women were as willing to share an honest approach versus ‘what’s expected’ we’d be in a much better place!”
.
What do you think of this? Do you have your own personal benchmarks? Do they change over time?
I know my benchmarks have! When E was small (5 years ago) I thought I was doing well if I got us out of the house each day and then had something resembling dinner ready for when Lovely Bloke got home from work. I had no expectations around cleaning, washing, having time to myself. Sadly, Lovely Bloke did, and that caused some trouble, but we’ve gotten through it.
What are your benchmarks?
