I forgot to mention in my Christmas present post yesterday, that we’ve made a Statue of Liberty, as a review from Nanboblocks. And it should have been in that post as I think it has potential for giving as a Christmas present!
Now, remembering that our boys are nearly 8 and 6 and a half, I have to tell you that our 6 and a half year old started it, but couldn’t make much progress, so it was left to the nearly 8 year old and Lovely Bloke to actually make it. It’s really well made kit, but I think you need to get the child to choose which item it is that they want to make, so that they see it through to the finish point!
If you’ve not already seen them, Nanoblocks are very different to Lego because they are made to be made and appreciated – they don’t feel to me like they are for taking apart and making new things from them. They are cool and quirky – I can see them lining up on a shelf in a teenagers room. They definitely need to be a bit older, for them to have the patience to make them, than my boys are. That’s no bad thing either. Because we were really struggling to think of what to buy for a pair of 10 and 11 year old boys. And now we aren’t!
Our Statue of Liberty is currently next to some ceramic birds and a reed diffuser on top of the sideboard in our grown ups lounge. I kid you not. We’re very proud of it. And I daren’t touch it so instead of our photos, here’s a youtube video of what it looks like when the photo is taken by a pro!
