I’m rather proud to report that I’m walking my walk more and more these days. I know, you don’t know what I’m talking about. I think that it’s more important to spend money making memories than money on buying stuff. In August, Lovely Bloke and I went out for dinner together to do a review at the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill in the Hilton Hotel. It’s the place where we got married and yet, even though it’s on our doorstep, we don’t go there for dinner.
For starters, I had onion soup and Lovely Bloke had pate. It was lush. I ate all of it and then worried, that I wouldn’t have space for my main course!

And for main, we shared a chateaubriand, with chips, onion rings and a lovely sauce! We asked for it well done, because that’s how I like my steak. In hindsight, we should have gone for medium well – and we will do next time, promise! The sauce was lovely, did I mention the sauce? You can get sauce anywhere, but this was *sauce*….
And for Lovely Bloke’s pudding, he had a Cambridge Custard. I tried some of it. It was perfect. I want to go back just for the pudding alone. I had Chocolate Brownie and it was great, but didn’t give me opportunities to film videos where we made jokes about butt cracks.

It was all lovely. Just lovely. The service was great, and it was really nice to sit and look over the river. If you’ve had dinner in a hotel restaurant, you should know that it’s not the regular kind of decor. It’s not ostentatious. It’s just very nicely done. I think with the wine, had we been paying, it would have come to £120 ish. Which is not cheap, but certainly not the most expensive dinner a deux to be had in Cambridge and it’s given us an idea – we’re thinking of taking some family and friends there next year, in August, for dinner, or a family meal, to celebrate our tenth anniversary.
So, do I recommend it? Yes, as a place for an adult meal together. I don’t think I’d want to take the boys there as it feels like a place where people have meals that they want to enjoy, that might be – to not have two boys arguing over which iPad has the best games on it. Having said that, I know that on a Sunday families have Sunday lunch there together and that is very family friendly, so don’t think I’m saying it’s not family friendly when I know it is! What do you do to make memories? Things that are spendy, not spendy, random, or cool. Whatever it is, I want to hear about it!
